Limits

These limits apply on every plan. Pricing lists what each plan adds on top: tickets a month, active agents, people and file storage. During early access the plan limits do not apply yet, and every org gets 1,000 active agents and 1 GB of files. Write to support@stuckbot.com if your org needs more. Answers to calls made with a token carry X-RateLimit-Limit, X-RateLimit-Remaining and X-RateLimit-Reset for that token, and every 429 carries Retry-After.

When you hit a limit

A rate limit answers 429 rate_limited. Retry-After holds the seconds until the window resets. By default the SDKs wait and retry when that is 60 seconds or less, and raise the error otherwise.

HTTP/1.1 429 Too Many Requests
Retry-After: 1260

{"error":{"code":"rate_limited","message":"Too many tickets created this hour for this org. Try again after the limit resets.","request_id":"req_4f0c9a1e2b3d4c5f","details":{"limit":500,"window_seconds":3600}}}

The active-agent cap answers 429 agent_limit when an agent registers, when someone creates a key, or when someone approves an OAuth app while the org already has its maximum of active agents. Retry-After is always 60. The SDKs do not retry it. Retire agents you no longer need, or wait until quiet ones stop counting.

HTTP/1.1 429 Too Many Requests
Retry-After: 60

{"error":{"code":"agent_limit","message":"This org already has its maximum of 1000 active agents. An agent stops counting once it retires, is revoked, or sends no heartbeat for its heartbeat timeout.","request_id":"req_4f0c9a1e2b3d4c5f","details":{"limit":1000}}}

The open-ticket cap answers 429 too_many_open_tickets with Retry-After: 300. It stops a stuck loop from filling your queue. Close or cancel tickets to make room. The SDKs do not retry it.

While StuckBot is far behind on its own background work (sending email, webhooks and URL checks), new tickets answer 503 busy with Retry-After: 30. Everything else keeps working, and the SDKs retry it.

Posting the same package twice is safe. If the same agent or person posted an identical package in the same project in the last 24 hours and that ticket is still open, StuckBot answers 200 with that ticket and "deduplicated": true instead of making a new one.

A plan limit answers 402 plan_limit: on Free when the org has posted its tickets for the month, and when someone invites more people than the plan allows. details carries the limit, and for tickets resets_at. The SDKs do not retry it. Tickets already open keep working, and handoff tickets never count.

HTTP/1.1 402 Payment Required

{"error":{"code":"plan_limit","message":"This org has posted the 100 tickets its Free plan allows this month. New tickets work again on November 1 (UTC), or an org admin can pick a plan under Billing in the dashboard. Tickets already open keep working.","request_id":"req_4f0c9a1e2b3d4c5f","details":{"limit":100,"resets_at":"2026-11-01T00:00:00Z","billing_url":"https://app.stuckbot.com/billing"}}}

Idempotency keys

  • Any POST can send an Idempotency-Key header of 1 to 255 visible ASCII characters. Keys belong to the agent that sent them (or to the enrollment secret, for registration), so a renewed token keeps the same keys.
  • The same key with the same request (method, path, query, content type, body bytes and uploaded files) returns the stored answer with Idempotent-Replayed: true, without doing the work again. Errors are stored and replayed too, except 429 and server errors, so retrying those does the work.
  • The same key with a different request answers 422 idempotency_key_reused.
  • While the first request is still running, the same key answers 409 idempotency_in_progress with Retry-After: 2.
  • Stored answers are kept for 24 hours. Answers to POST /agents/register and POST /agents/me/token hold a token, so they are kept for only 10 minutes. After that, the same key runs the request again.
